My boyfriend and I decided to do a weekend trip to celebrate
Valentine’s Day! We left for Squamish just after lunch time, but had to make a
couple stops along the way to pick up a few groceries as well as some firewood
from one of Cody’s job sites. The Airbnb cabin we were staying at had a wood
burning stove! I was so excited to have a cozy rainy weekend in front of the
fire watching old VHSs, reading, and eating!
We made it to Squamish and had some time to kill before
check-in at 4pm. Every second Saturday during the winter Squamish has a little
farmers’ market at Squamish Elementary school. We sampled some treats and wine,
but had only a limited amount of cash on us so unfortunately we couldn’t
splurge on this one deliciously fruity white wine that we tried. Cody was very
sweet though and bought me some beeswax candles because I love the smell. We
also picked up some tarts because they looked amazing— it was a tough choice
but we settled on sour cherry, pear almond, salted caramel chocolate, and lemon!
After checking out the farmers’ market we made our way to
Tim Hortons for a snack. Then we took a little walk in the rain by Squamish
River to look for eagles. During the winter Squamish is an ideal place for
eagle watching, especially around Brackendale. Unfortunately we didn’t spot any
today, probably because the weather was awful.
It was finally time to check-in, so we took a short yet very
scenic drive to our Airbnb cabin. There was a cute chalkboard sign welcoming us
to a charming rustic cabin. The place was decorated with little knickknacks,
quirky old artwork, and various memorabilia from around British Columbia. I
felt like I had been transported back into the 90s with the old TV, huge
collection of VHS movies, and a great board game selection. The cabin was well
stocked with many essentials, and even had a washer and dryer!
Cody got to work starting a fire in the old fashioned wood
stove while I snooped around, looking at all the random knickknacks and reading
the guest book. We got the fire roaring and then put on American Beauty and
snuggled on the couch with an apple cider. I was honestly so happy! A cozy
weekend getaway was exactly what I needed after a stressful couple weeks at
work.
After the movie Cody got busy in the kitchen making dinner
while I watched Mortal Combat, which was the perfect cheesy retro movie to
watch on an old school TV. Cody made pierogies sautéed in onions, bacon, and sriracha,
and then topped then with a ton of cheese and sour cream. It was so delicious
and satisfying; the perfect comfort food! We ate and finished the movie, and
then headed to bed pretty early.
