1. Floaties!
Cody has a whole fleet of them in assorted shapes, sizes,
and colours! Mattress, boat, chair - he’s got it all. Except I’d love to get
one of those inflatable swans that you keep seeing all over Instagram. It’s so
much fun to take some drinks and snacks and then just relax on a lake! An
essential that goes along with this would be a battery-powered air pump. This
was a recent addition to Cody’s gear, and honestly it makes a world of difference!
No more exhausting hand pumping or having to hook up a pump to your car. The battery
lasted the whole weekend, and we used it quite a bit (air mattress in the tent
plus three big floaties, and air top-offs throughout).
2. Solar-Powered Speakers
This is such a good thing to have. Ours is
water-resistant and relatively small, and after it’s charged up in the sun for
a bit, you can also charge your phone off it! So good to have when camping, or
even a day at the beach. You can play your music via Bluetooth or plugging your
device in. We also have a battery-powered lantern speaker that we use at
nighttime. It’s nice since it provides light and the battery lasts around 8
hours, but I would recommend getting something solar-powered rather than
battery.
3. Stainless Steel Mini Grill
We got ours from a garage sale for $11. Such a great
find! It’s small and portable, and great for cooking burgers and hot dogs while
camping or at the beach.
4. Face Wipes
Especially if you’re camping in a spot without bathrooms
or running water, wet wipes are so important to have. When you’re feeling
sweaty, dirty, and overall very gross, being able to clean off your face and
hands feels like luxury.
5. Bug Spray / Sunscreen / Toilet Paper / Hand Sanitizer
Hopefully everyone would think to bring the above items,
but I’m listing them here just in case! Bug spray isn’t always necessary,
especially if you’re camping around Vancouver the bugs aren’t too bad, but it’s
always good to have! Sunscreen - please just wear it and don’t get skin cancer.
As for toilet paper and hand sanitizer, if you’re at a campground with full
bathrooms you’re very lucky. However, in my experience, you’re lucky to have a
nice outhouse. Last weekend our campground’s outhouse didn’t have toilet paper,
hand sanitizer, or even a lock on the door. Next weekend we’re camping in a
spot with no bathrooms. Should be interesting and I’ll let you know how that
goes!
