After a delicious breakfast of an omelet and toast with homemade raspberry jam, we headed out for the day. We went for a cool little hike through the forest to see Wesach Falls. There was so much moss covering the forest floor, it looked like a fairy tale forest. However, there were so many bugs and I got eaten alive, which ruined the storybook vibe a little bit.
The waterfall was huge and so beautiful. Cody loves
waterfalls, so this was a special moment for him. He climbed right down to the
foot of the waterfall, which must’ve been scary because the rock looked wet and
slippery. But at least we got some great photos!
Our next stop was the Peeing Tree. It’s a big old tree
rigged up with some kind of piping, so that it looks like the tree is peeing. The
water was fresh cold glacial water, better than tap water! We filled up our
bottles a few times just because it was so refreshing on a hot day.
We quickly popped into the Rossland General Store, which
was very rustic and exactly how you would picture an old fashioned small town
shop. We picked up ice cream, beef jerky, and fireworks! The outhouse there was
relatively clean, but so creepy. It looked like a scene from a horror movie,
with its peeling white paint and strange old marks and stains. Also, the lock
on the door had been removed! I was in a hurry to pee and get out of there.
Then we went to check out Kalum Lake, a huge beautifully
bluey-green lake. The water was calm and the landscape was absolutely gorgeous.
We walked along the beach and the sand was so soft. There were lots of people
camping around there; I would love to come back there one day to camp.
Later on we got packed up for an evening at the beach. Cody’s family had a couple plastic kayaks, so we took them out on the lake. I have very little upper body strength so my arms were pretty tired, but it was so fun paddling around with the waves! It was also just so relaxing to get some quiet time out on the water. We also did some swimming and then sat on the beach and ate watermelon and egg salad sandwiches for dinner.
It was a lovely summer day and it was so much fun getting to see a lot of the sights that Terrace has to offer!
