Snowshoeing | Cypress Mountain

Over the weekend Cody and I went snowshoeing on Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver. We invested in really good snowshoes so that we could avoid pricey rentals every time we want to trek through the snow. If you have your own, there are tons of free snowshoeing trails around Vancouver! It is so much fun walking and playing in the snow, the views are incredible, and you also get a really good workout!

Unfortunately it took us a long time to get up the mountain because there was a huge car accident further up so we were stuck for over an hour. I didn’t mind too much because it was so nice sitting in the car watching the snowfall! At one point we were seriously considering trying to turn around, but I’m so glad we stuck it out because it was definitely worth it.

It was snowing so hard, it looked like a winter wonderland! Luckily it wasn’t windy and didn’t feel too cold, so the conditions were perfect. We set out in a random direction and then followed some old snowshoe tracks off the main trail before eventually connecting up with a trail to the Bowen Lookout Point. The trek up really burned our legs and we were so relieved when we finally made it to the top. We were rewarded with a beautiful view, but it was cloudy so we couldn’t see out to Bowen Island.

We sat down in the snow to have a little rest and some water and snacks. We crumbled up pieces of granola bars in our hands to feed the Whiskey Jacks, and they flew right over to eat out of our hands. It was so magical, I felt like Snow White! I love birds so much and it was amazing getting to see them so close.

By the time we got back to the car we were exhausted but in good moods. I couldn’t recommend snowshoeing on Cypress enough! I want to fit lots more snowshoeing in before winter is over. Where should we snowshoe next?
