A Few Days at a Cabin in the Woods | Terrace Days 4-6

We got up bright and early to get ready for a trip to Cody’s family’s cabin, which is off-the-grid and can only be reached by boat. It was a beautiful boat ride up the Kasiks River. We were completed isolated; no other humans around. The landscape was so green and mountainous! I felt truly out in nature. I even saw a bear running up the beach into some bushes.

Wesach Falls, the Peeing Tree, and Kalum Lake! | Video Journal | Terrace Part 2

Again I've disappeared and haven't been keeping up with my goal of posting twice a week... we are currently going through a family emergency and overall rough time, so please bare with me! Instead of being so hard on myself, I'm just going to post when I can, and try not to worry about it too much. I've been posting much more regularly on my Instagram account, @wanderlovelaura!

I've been having so much fun making these little video journals, so without further ado, here is Terrace Part Two!

Wesach Falls, Peeing Tree, and Kayaking! | Terrace Day 3

After a delicious breakfast of an omelet and toast with homemade raspberry jam, we headed out for the day. We went for a cool little hike through the forest to see Wesach Falls. There was so much moss covering the forest floor, it looked like a fairy tale forest. However, there were so many bugs and I got eaten alive, which ruined the storybook vibe a little bit.

CHICKENS!!! | Terrace Day 2

On our second day in Terrace I woke up early and went for a really great run. I love exploring new places and taking in the sights while running! There were beautiful gardens, horses, and funny old buildings. Compared to Vancouver, Terrace really has a small town vibe.

Flying, Storm, and Almost Dying | Terrace Day 1

Cody and I went on a week-long trip to Terrace, British Columbia to visit his family last month. It was my first time going there, and my first time meeting some of his family and hometown friends (besides the ones that have visited us in Vancouver). Over the next couple weeks I’ll be sharing our Terrace adventures, so please check back often!

5 Camping Must-Haves

1. Floaties!
Cody has a whole fleet of them in assorted shapes, sizes, and colours! Mattress, boat, chair - he’s got it all. Except I’d love to get one of those inflatable swans that you keep seeing all over Instagram. It’s so much fun to take some drinks and snacks and then just relax on a lake! An essential that goes along with this would be a battery-powered air pump. This was a recent addition to Cody’s gear, and honestly it makes a world of difference! No more exhausting hand pumping or having to hook up a pump to your car. The battery lasted the whole weekend, and we used it quite a bit (air mattress in the tent plus three big floaties, and air top-offs throughout).

Levette Lake Camping | Squamish, BC

My boyfriend and I decided to go for a little weekend camping trip to his favourite spot, Levette Lake. We left work early to get a headstart on our getaway. It was a beautiful and hot Friday, but I got a wee bit carsick on the drive, since the highway between Vancouver and Squamish is super windy. Then to reach the campground you have to drive up a steep, rocky, and very bumpy logging road.

Camping, Slo-Pitch, and Bunnies! | Vernon 2016

Follow us along to Vernon! My boyfriend and I went for a Slo-Pitch tournament / music festival weekend called Funtastic. We stayed at a campsite full of bunnies and had such a good time.

Let me know what you think and I'll try to make more little videos like this for all my upcoming trips!

Failure | 2016

I've been a bit of a failure with my blog. I disappeared for months and abandoned my travel writing. I went through a tough time and lost all my motivation. But I'm back now, so let's just pretend that never happened! :)

I'm going to take a quick look at my 2016 blog goals and reassess, as the year is now more than half over.

Squamish Day 2

I woke up around 6am feeling well rested, so I got up and did some writing while Cody slept in. Unfortunately the wifi in the cabin was terrible, but I still felt pretty productive! Once Cody got up we made coffee and watched 101 Dalmatians.

Squamish Day 1

My boyfriend and I decided to do a weekend trip to celebrate Valentine’s Day! We left for Squamish just after lunch time, but had to make a couple stops along the way to pick up a few groceries as well as some firewood from one of Cody’s job sites. The Airbnb cabin we were staying at had a wood burning stove! I was so excited to have a cozy rainy weekend in front of the fire watching old VHSs, reading, and eating!

5 Ways to Save Money to Travel

1. Start a savings account
When I first started saving up to travel I had a bad job and could hardly afford my rent and other expenses every month. I started a savings account specifically for travel, and set it up so $50 from every paycheck went straight in. That’s just a small amount of money, but it is surprising how quickly it adds up! You can deposit whatever amount works best for you and watch it grow! Before you know it you’ll have a nice chunk of money set aside for travel.

Snowshoeing | Cypress Mountain

Over the weekend Cody and I went snowshoeing on Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver. We invested in really good snowshoes so that we could avoid pricey rentals every time we want to trek through the snow. If you have your own, there are tons of free snowshoeing trails around Vancouver! It is so much fun walking and playing in the snow, the views are incredible, and you also get a really good workout!

Columbia River Gorge | Oregon Journal

Just a short drive from Portland is amazing views of the Columbia River Gorge, a massive canyon that separates Oregon and Washington. I suggest you stop at the Vista House observatory for an almost 360 degree view of the gorge. It’s a great place for photos, but it can be super windy! We got there so early in the morning we had the lookout all to ourselves. In addition to the view of the canyon, it is also worth a stop to see the Vista House itself. It was closed when we were there, but it is a beautiful observatory.

Cannon Beach | Oregon Journal

On our second day in Oregon, the last stop was Cannon Beach. It is a really charming town with a beautiful beach and the famous Haystack Rock. My dad and I were feeling extremely tired so we decided to get coffees and watch the sunset on the beach.

Cape Kiwanda | Oregon Journal

My dad and I got up at 6am to get the most out of our second day in Oregon. After a quick breakfast we drove from Portland to the Oregon Coast. We took a very scenic route through the country and it was so beautiful. After a couple hours of driving, we arrived at Cape Kiwanda.

Harbourview Park | North Vancouver

My boyfriend and I had a lovely Sunday morning walk with a beautiful view. Harbourview Park is a little trail beside the ocean with a stunning viewpoint at the end. The park is a hidden gem right across the street from Park and Tilford Centre. I never knew there was such a nice walk by the water in that area! I brought the clip-on wide angle lens for my iphone that I got for Christmas, and we had a little photoshoot and got lots of cool shots.

Portland Food Trucks | Oregon Journal

After a mini roadtrip from Vancouver, my dad and I arrived in Portland. We spent the afternoon exploring the city and enjoying the sights. My dad took lots of pictures (photo credit for most of the photos in this post goes to him), while all I could focus on was getting a snack.
